HVAC SystemThe most commonly used pump in HVAC systems is a centrifugal pump. Centrifugal pumps are mainly comprised of a motor shaft connected to a pump impeller. It works by creating a pressure difference between its water outlet and inlet. This enables water to move through your HVAC pipes.

Here are some of the most common types of centrifugal pumps for your HVAC system:

Circulating Pumps

Circulating centrifugal pumps are mostly found in low capacity and low-pressure systems. Your HVAC’s capacity should be below 550 lpm with an operating pressure of below 860 kPa. A circulating pump is supported and directly mounted in the HVAC’s piping system. Its motor is available in horizontal and vertical positions.

End Suction Pumps

These are pumps with a single suction that can be either flexible or close-coupled. Water enters your pump horizontally from its suction end and vertically exits from the top of the pump. This pump is the ideal choice for HVAC systems that has 45m of head and up to 15,000 lpm of capacity. All its components including the bearing assembly, pump and motor are mounted on one base.

Split Case Pumps

Split-case centrifugal pumps have flexible coupling between the pump and motor. The assembly is mounted on a common base with the pump’s discharge and suction in a horizontal direction perpendicular to your pump’s shaft. They can either be double or single suction. They may also come with multiple impellers to increase the available head in a single pump. These pumps have a capacity of 24, 500 lpm with a head of 180m and can handle up to an operating pressure of 2700 kPa.

Vertical in-line pumps are double or single suction close coupled pumps. They are usually supported by and mounted on the HVAC’s piping system. They have a 94,000 lpm capacity with a head of 90m.

The pump is a critical component of your HVAC system. Make sure the system works smoothly by having an expert handle your pump’s installation, repair and maintenance.
